A Midsummer Night's Dream at Kirkstall Abbey

Four Forty Theatre tackle A Midsummer Night’s Dream with their trademark mix of irreverence, wit, and theatrical ingenuity. Lovers are enchanted, fairies feud, and a troupe of hapless players rehearse their way into disaster — all in a single moonlit night. Celebrated for inventive staging, breakneck character changes, and playful dismantling of tradition, Four Forty breathe fresh mischief into Shakespeare’s best-loved comedy. The result is part affectionate homage, part riotous reinvention: clever, chaotic, and utterly alive. It’s a Dream performed with wit turned sharp and imagination turned loose — Shakespeare, but with Four Forty’s unmistakable spirit driving the mayhem.

Recommended age 7 and above

Picnics welcome as the cafe closes at 4pm! There will also be a food vendor to be announced closer to the date! 

Please bring your own chairs and blankets and prepare for adverse weather. The show will go ahead even in heavy rain so please dress accordingly. Umbrellas are discouraged as they block sight lines but ponchos and coats never go out of style!

Parking is available in the main car park. Pick up and drop off is permitted for those who need it.

Tickets cannot be refunded due to bad weather. In the event of lightning or where there is a danger to health a decision will be made by 440 Theatre and the Abbey management. For those on blankets please sit close to the front of the performance area and those with camping chair allow adequate space.
